On May 12th a major earthquake, 7.5 on the Richter scale,hit the Sichuan province of China. The latest figures estimate approximately 68,000 dead with more than 360,000 adults and children injured. About 20,000 people are missing. Dangers of flooding are now hitting the area and thousands have fled their homes. Over a million people are in danger.
Tornadoes and flooding across the central part of the country has caused deaths, major evacuations and losses in the millions. And the worst may be yet to come as levees give way.
A tidal surge from the Cyclone Nargis has left the area devastated. The cyclone tore through Myanmar (Burma) May 2 with unexpected fury, causing a tidal surge that swept inland and devastated Myanmar's most populated regions, leaving homes and businesses flattened and families without food or shelter.
